The LAB has reached consensus on adjusting “418” to “468”
Current situation
On February 1, 2024, the employee and employer members reached consensus on reviewing and adjusting the continuous contract (418 Ordinance), which is under the Employment Ordinance, during the meeting by LAB. According to the existing 418 Ordinance, employees who work for the same employer for 4 weeks or more plus 18 hours per week can acquire a continuous contract. Nevertheless, the new “468” contract is going to be more lenient than the previous. Employees just need to work 68 hours within 4 weeks to acquire the continuous contract.
What are the employees’ benefits from having a continuous contract?
Here are the possible benefits (but not limited to):
Paid leaves (public holidays and annual leaves)
Rest-days
Paternity leave
Maternity leave
Medical benefits
Severance Payment
Long service Payment
Other related employees’ protections
